Westmorland County, founded in 1653, has approximately 250 miles of pristine shoreline along the Potomac River and all of the tributaries. The towns include: Kinsale, Coles Point, Hague, Mount Holly, Montross and Colonial Beach.

While traveling through Westmoreland County, you will see many historic landmarks, including George Washington’s Birthplace, Stratford Hall, beautiful farmland, locally owned restaurants, marinas and fantastic antique and gift shops.

The town of Montross houses the government offices, courthouse and sheriff’s office. There is also a grocery store, medical offices, banks, local produce stands and even a coffee shop. Montross is known for its popular events throughout the year including: Montross Fall Festival, Art Shows, Live Music events at the Montross Brewery, and the Stratford Hall Wine & Oyster Festival.

Westmoreland State Park is another great attraction in Westmoreland County. This park offers many opportunities for fun along the Potomac River. Enjoy camping, cabins, a fishing pier, or hunt for shark’s teeth along the beach.
